Uzbekistan’s Emerging Space Economy

  • Uzbekistan is entering a new stage in the development of space science, satellite technologies and commercial aerospace services. Through national programmes, international partnerships and growing private-sector participation, the country is building the foundations of a modern space economy in Central Asia.
  • The Agency of Space Research and Technology, commonly known as Uzbekcosmos, is the authorised government body responsible for developing space activities, conducting scientific research and introducing modern space technologies across Uzbekistan’s economy. Its work includes satellite monitoring, Earth observation, communications, education and the development of national space infrastructure.
  • Uzbekistan is also preparing a National Space Programme through 2035, intended to establish long-term priorities for satellite development, space research, professional training and international cooperation.

  • The national space programme is expected to focus on several strategic areas:

Role of Private Companies

DreamSat

  • DreamSat is an Uzbekistan-based educational initiative focused on inspiring and preparing the next generation of satellite engineers and space-technology specialists.
  • The project promotes practical education in satellite systems and gives students opportunities to learn about satellite design, engineering and related technologies. Initiatives of this kind can support the future creation of domestic aerospace start-ups and specialised engineering companies.

  • Uzbek universities and international partners have worked on developing practice-oriented programmes in space systems and communications engineering.
